A variety of messages need to be included in a campaign with both supportive and threatening delivery styles that are used to complement each other. Additionally, utilizing a variety of channels to communicate can allow for the message to shape the mass media or community, small group, or interpersonal levels of campaigns. The health communication strategies aim to change attitudes, knowledge and/or behavior, such as empowering individuals to improve or change their conditions; increasing the availability of needed services and support; increasing perception of risk; influencing social norms; and reinforcing positive behaviors. Additionally, the utilization of several media and communication strategies will ensure that there is a wider reach. Also, it is critical that the target audience can access the channel of communication used.

In addition to your critique of the advertisement you mentioned, the campaign, other than the need to have a sign language interpreter and multi-language versions of the message, the advert should also have included the effects of not wearing a mask, sanitizing the hands, and keeping social distance. Talking about the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 should be backed with how the infection takes place. For example, the advert could show how by not keeping social distance, a person that coughs near another or touches another who is already infected spreads the virus from the infected to the other person. Also, because the youth tend to be asymptomatic, the advert could have shown how their status significantly contributed to the spread of the illness. This is because in a country like Italy, which is still among the worst hit, the younger generations were found to be among the greatest agents of disease spread to the older generations.

Ever since January 2020 everyone’s lives have changed around us related to pandemic. Due to COVID-19, there has been multiple changes in various health policies globally. Some of the research companies have made several advertisements to help spread health policy agenda in order to educate people. Similar to research companies, three professional organizations such as: American Hospital Association (AHA), the American Medical Association (AMA), and American Nurses Association (ANA) collaborated to delivered a health policy related campaign to the American people in July, 2020 which was called “#WearAMask” (McClendon, 2020). The campaign was launched in a YouTube platform to share the message. The message delivered three essential steps including: wearing a mask, practice physical distancing, and washing hands frequently (ANA, 2020).

The message in the advertisement portrayed in a simple way that any member of the society who understand English would be able to comprehend. In addition, the advertisement did not only show the guests speakers talking, but also applying mask on themselves to show viewers. Therefore, the advertisement was also beneficial for people who are unable to read English. On the contrary, the advertisement was not played in different languages such as Spanish, Hindi, or Chinese for those with language barriers. Also, nor the video played using a sign language speaker for people who are deaf. Even though, the video did show speakers applying a mask did convey the important message being delivered. These three essential steps of health policy are adopted globally.

Consequently, sometimes visual advertisements make a positive difference when delivering health policies. The short visual advertisement delivered by combining three professional organization to convey three steps conveyed an essential message for the American people. Even though, there are some barriers to the advertisement, but the message being also relayed visually makes a huge difference for the society as well.
