Although there was no data, figures, or statistics in the brochure, most of the information given is credible and backed by scientific research. For example, the results of the study done by Grant, Guille, & Sen (2015) support Speak Up’s theory, noting that depression is characterized by withdrawal, fatigue, eating less or more, oversleeping, and loss of interest in activities. Lastly, I believe the information presented will promote the health and safety of patients because it gives clear directions about what needs to be done and where to find further assistance, such as information about referrals, mental health aid, and medication help.

Conclusion

From the discussion above, it is clear that the Speak Up brochure, which The Joint Commission prepared in collaboration with the American Psychiatric Association and eight other organizations, is an educative piece that essentially targets to promote the health and safety of patients suffering from depression.
