Strategies to Improve Job Satisfaction

Job satisfaction is integral in ensuring positive organizational outcomes. Keeping nursing staff motivated is important to healthcare organizations as it results in optimized healthcare. Job dissatisfaction is a common occurrence among staff. Some of the causative factors for job dissatisfaction are the results of abuse and poor relationships in the workplace, heightened levels of workload, lack of confidence in the safety provided in the workplace, and a healthcare system that puts business principles before care (Niskala et al., 2020).

The first recommendation would be to create a positive work environment free of abuse for the staff. A safe work environment ensures the staff feels free and safe to perform their duties. The HR department should step in to ensure that healthy relationships are created between nurses, patients, physicians, and other colleagues. This will make sure that an environment where nurses can thrive is created (Niskala et al., 2020).

Secondly, a useful strategy would be to employ more nurses. Big workload results in less staff performing more jobs, which then causes physical and mental strains. Hiring more nurses would reduce the workload, thereby reducing stress levels and improving job satisfaction (Niskala et al., 2020). Another measure I would implement is to develop and utilize frameworks that ensure every nurse works to their full scope of practice. Also, I would take advantage of nurses’ strengths. This is because assigning jobs according to your strength results in tasks being completed in shorter periods and also boosts the confidence of the staff. The result is increased efficiency of the team (Cardenas, 2016).

Another strategy is to provide a platform where staff can easily give feedback about healthcare issues they face regularly. This would discourage unproductive whining and complaining and encourage dialogue about their daily challenges, such as nurses’ safety and patient care or any other stressful managed care issue. Opening such a platform would help in generating positive solutions that are useful in tackling job dissatisfaction (Cardenas, 2016). Finally, to improve job satisfaction, an organization can create and implement policies that reward the staff for their excellent work. Creating a rewarding system helps in keeping the staff motivated and actively involved.
