According to Gracia, Serrano, & Garrido (2019), medication errors refer to a complex and serious issue in the clinical practice setting that involves the failure of the patient or the doctor to adhere to the overall medication process (Gracia, Serrano, & Garrido, 2019). In other words, it is an error that occurs in administering, dispensing, or prescribing a drug. Health statistics show that medication errors are one of the leading causes of death in healthcare organizations. According to Jember et al. (2018), it is estimated that approximately 6,000 to 20,000 patients die annually due to medication errors. With such a high mortality rate, medication errors remain a significant problem in healthcare organizations (Jember et al., 2018). The existing literature has provided critical knowledge on evidence-based practice to improve patient care and reduce the prevalence and incidence of medication errors in clinical practice (Gracia et al., 2019).

CINAHL is one of the major databases for indexing and searching documents and articles in allied and nursing health literature (Wilczynski et al., 2007). The CINAHL database has helped provide nurses with useful evidence-based practice articles to assist in improving patient care in clinical settings. As a result, I will use this database to search for articles related to my topic of discussion and the search terms. To search CINAHL, I’ll first log in to the database through the website. I’ll then use the database search feature employing the appropriate limiter to narrow down my search results; after clicking search, the database will bring a list of CINAHL subject headings for the various terms entered based on the selected limiter. To get the most relevant search results from the database, I will use different terms related to the topic of discussion as the search terms on the database search bar (Wilczynski et al., 2007). These search terms include medication, errors, and medication errors or errors in medication. After the list of results for the various search terms has been brought up on the screen, I will select the most appropriate article for the topic search.
