Expenditures such as health research, healthcare, and other health-related services and items have sharply increased tenfold over recent years since the 1980s. Some western economies implement national healthcare and health insurance to cater to the rising need for healthcare services. However, private health insurance in the United States and uninsured people have increasing excreted pressure on the healthcare system. In the U.S. workforce, companies provide private health insurance through employer-sponsored programs. According to the U.S. Census Bureau data, about 60 percent of the population is covered by their employers, while 9 percent directly purchase private insurance (Dan, Seabury, & Jena, 2015). Even though the government has initiated several programs to cater to the rising costs of healthcare, a lot remains to be done in the insurance sector, especially the private insurance sector.

According to the main goals of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the government needs to address the rising costs of healthcare. The goals include the expansion of Medicaid to the working poor, reforming the private insurance market, and influencing legislation related to medical decisions (Silvers, 2013). These objectives primarily depend on the private choices made by the policyholders rather than the regulations placed by the government. The underprivileged members of society suffering from chronic illnesses have challenges paying for their premiums and receiving the quality of care they ought to receive due to their lack of funds.

As a medical practitioner, I have ethical constraints balancing providing healthcare services to patients against the monetary demands of the facility I work for. Even though my employer has not yet implemented specific strategies to handle patients with financial challenges, healthcare providers are non-discriminate in handling patients based on their insurance type.
