Women’s health is the branch of medicine whose focus is on the disease diagnosis and treatment that affect the emotional and physical well-being of women. In this course, a number of women’s health issues were discussed, and the different variables, including preventative and screening care, the impact of social lifestyles on women’s health, sexual health services as an important part of a woman’s well-being, and gynecological and reproductive health throughout the life course of a woman.

The health and disease state that advanced practice nurses manage throughout the lifespan of a woman include disorders such as bacterial vaginosis, uterine fibroids, vaginitis, and vulvodynia; urinary tract health including urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders; menstruation and menstrual irregularities.

The healthcare and clinical guidelines are defined by the Institute of Medicine as “systematically developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances.” (Zisovska, 2017). These offer concise instructions on the screening and diagnostic tests that ought to be ordered, how medical or surgical services should be provided, the length of stay for patients in a hospital, or other clinical practice details. The main benefit of guidelines is the quality of care improvement that patients receive. Although rigorous clinical guidelines are shown to improve care quality, whether this happens in a daily practice is yet to be proven. This is because managers, payers, doctors, and patients have different definitions of quality, and also there is incomplete evidence on the guidelines’ effectiveness.

There are different evidence-based healthcare practices for different illnesses that affect women but are not always implemented in the variation and delivery of care. Little research has focused on the implementation of practices. This is despite the fact that care can only be made much safer by practicing what is revealed from research. It is difficult to implement evidence-based practices as they also need strategies that address the complex care systems, senior leadership, and individual practitioners, ultimately altering the cultures of healthcare to be environments of evidence-based safety practice.

The six main healthcare programs by the government provide health services, including women’s health services, to close to a third of Americans. The federal government is responsible for ensuring that the money invested in these programs goes to reduce the burden of disability, injury, and illness as well as improve the functioning and health of women and men. The federal government should thus exercise strong leadership in dealing with the shortcomings in the quality and safety of healthcare.

Communication is critical for cooperation, collaboration, and sound relationships, all necessary aspects of professional nursing practice. The communication quality between nurses and colleagues and nurses and patients significantly impacts patient outcomes. Increasing and enhancing communication in nursing can minimize medical errors and make positive patient outcomes.

Women and girls have specific health needs, yet all across the globe, the health systems seem to fail them. When addressing the lives of women, it is critical that, as a healthcare practitioner, I examine the underlying economic, epidemiological, cultural, and social health determinants. I believe that it is important that these areas are examined and that this impact on my patients is dealt with independently. Most of these determinants are closely interrelated, and development in one area can promote the improvement of another area. I will need to take strategic initiatives when caring for my patients within a framework of cultural competence and the well-being and health of girls and women health considerations across their lifespan.
