The federal government spends a lot of resources on health care. On the contrary, the cost of healthcare in America is higher than in other European countries, and, therefore, the burden is heavy on the consumer (Baughman et al.,2016). Maintaining health can be cheap or expensive, depending on the decision made by the client. For example, one may decide to adopt a healthy lifestyle in which they exercise, eat a balanced diet, and consume less alcohol. On the other hand, if we don’t observe a healthy lifestyle, we will always end up spending a lot of our resources in hospitals.

Unhealthy living practices have contributed significantly to the increase in the hospital population in most hospitals. The lack of transparency has also contributed to the rising cost of healthcare, as some providers react by raising prices. Insurance companies, on the other hand, have increased the heavy burden on consumers by adding more charges and deductibles to consumers. Equally, some employers do not disclose how much they pay for employee insurance, and therefore employees do not have control over their payments (Heirich,2019).

Finally, insurance companies only advocate that consumers visit the physicians and hospitals within their networks, or they will have to pay more. The lack of competition between insurance companies in the states has contributed to the increase in health costs, as some private companies operate in consumer exploitation. To solve the problem, it is necessary to introduce competition in insurance companies. State boundaries should be opened up to ensure that insurance companies can move to other states, offer the game, and reduce healthcare costs. In addition, the federal government must intervene on the issue and offer some incentives to employers who recommend healthy lifestyles in their workplaces.
