Women’s Rights Movement

Women’s Rights Movement

Sample Answer

Women’s Rights Movement

In the US, women’s reproductive health refers to the social, mental, and physical issues linked to women’s health and includes their right to treatment of STDs, available methods of contraception, and adequate sexual health (Gable, 2009). The second wave of feminism inspired women’s health issues (Banaszak, 2010). In this second wave, women began to raise questions and demanded information on their anatomy and physiology in a male-dominated healthcare system.

Women’s reproductive health is a topic that I like to explore because I believe that every woman has a right to choose how many dependants she can have and support. In this case, dependants being the number of children, when she can have them, and with whom she can have them. Additionally, women are at a higher risk of sexually transmitted diseases because of their anatomy compared to men (CDC 2011). Hence, women should have the right to access contraception (diaphragm and vaccinations) and treatment for STDs at no cost.

Currently, the rights to women’s reproductive health in the US are jeopardized once again by the government of the day. The 2019 budget by the Trump administration threatens essential vulnerable populations, families, and women’s health programs. The government enhanced the ability of employers to claim moral and religious objections on their insurance coverage for employees regarding their access to contraception. Additionally, it has channeled family planning grants and programs on teen pregnancy prevention into those that put an emphasis on sexual abstinence (Bulleck, 2019). The research will look into the consequences of this change of policy. The research will thus conduct a qualitative assessment by involving centers that offer contraception options to teens and women to determine if the number of women accessing the services has been affected.
