Project Management

Project Management

Sample Answer

Project Management

Almost every project lifecycle is certain to have unexpected problems and questions arising that need to be answered (Burke, 2013). That said, a manager needs to have a problem-resolution process in place prior to the commencement of a project. This will ensure that the project stays on schedule and that the objectives are met. Risks need to be identified, and a plan developed to manage the same proactively using well-thought-out solutions (Chien, Wu, & Huang, 2014).

However, some problems are unforeseen, so the manager needs to take decisive and precise action. The manager should have a problems log where each problem is recorded immediately after it is identified (Stark, 2015). The log will provide a tool that will allow for reporting and communication to occur regarding the project. This will ensure that problems are raised, investigated and resolved effectively and quickly. The information to be included in the problems’ log includes the type of problem, the person that identified the problem, the time when the problem was identified, the description of the problem, the priority assigned, the person assigned responsibility for resolving the issue, the target date by which the resolution should be made, status to track progress, description of the action taken, and the final resolution (Stark, 2015). Finally, as Cleden (2017) asserts, a manager should have a problems framework put in place that will guide team members in identifying and logging any future problems they encounter during the project lifecycle.
